If you make kurtis, suits, nightwear or home textiles, Jaipuri printed cotton is one of the easiest fabrics to sell. It is breathable, comfortable in Indian weather, and its prints are recognised across the country. This short guide explains what to look for when you buy it in bulk.

What makes Jaipuri cotton different
Sanganer and Bagru, near Jaipur, have been printing cotton for generations. The style is known for floral buttis, jaals, paisleys and earthy colours on a light base. Today the same designs are made in two ways:
- Hand block printing: carved wooden blocks are pressed by hand. Every metre has small natural variations, which buyers value as a sign of handwork.
- Screen printing: designs are printed through screens, which gives more uniform repeats and suits larger orders.
Both are sold as “Jaipuri print”. Ask your supplier which method is used, so you can describe it correctly to your own customers.
Printed and dyed bases
Alongside prints, many boutiques and garment makers also buy solid-dyed cotton for linings, dupattas and plain styles. Common bases include:
- Cotton slub: a textured yarn that gives a slightly uneven, natural look.
- Cotton flex: a smooth, soft base used for kurtis and tops.
- Cotton lurex: cotton with a fine shimmer thread, popular for festive wear.
Pairing a printed fabric with a matching solid base lets you build a full collection from one supplier.

Tips for bulk buyers
- Ask for the design per metre requirement. Many wholesalers sell per design in thans or rolls. Plan how many metres you need of each design before you order.
- Check colour on a sample or video. Screens and phones show colours differently. A short video in daylight helps.
- Confirm the width and GSM. These decide how many garments you get from each metre. Ask for them in writing for every fabric.
- Wash care. Natural-dyed and printed cotton should be washed gently in cold water at first. Share this with your customers to reduce complaints.
- Plan dispatch. Confirm the transport or courier option and the booking type (godown or door delivery) before dispatch, so your parcel reaches you without delay.
Why buy directly from Jaipur
Buying from a manufacturer in Sanganer gives you access to fresh designs, more colour choices and the option to repeat a design you liked. You also deal directly with the people who print and finish the fabric.
